The primary responsibility of this position is to purchase materials and services from suppliers and ensure the lowest cost consistent with the quality requirements, reliability of the source, and the urgency of the need. (Local candidates only - no relocation available)

Procurement and Negotiation

 

 

·       Within established BMWC guidelines, purchase materials and services from suppliers

·       Receive and process requisitions and requests for materials

·       Select vendor(s) based on pertinent criteria

·       Execute and distribute purchase orders

·       Utilize COINS Purchasing Module, including entry of field and local office purchase orders

·       Negotiate with vendor to determine the terms, services, conditions, freight and delivery terms, and requirements for returns that are most favorable to the company

·       Recommend to  the Corporate Manager of Procurement procedures to facilitate departmental operations and procurement of quality materials

·       Under the guidance of the Corporate Manager of Procurement, recommend major designated purchase agreements for materials, supplies, equipment, and contract services within the purchasing area of responsibility

·       Solicit, tabulate, and summarize material costs from quantity take-off

·       Responsible for various office maintenance agreements

·       Serve as a liaison to the Estimating Department, working with Corporate Manager of Estimating to understand pricing policies and procedures for cost estimates

·       Ensure that BMWC’s competitive situation is enhanced by proper pricing at the estimate stage of proposals

 

 

·       Support Estimating Department in locating specialty items and acquiring pricing information, and maintain contact with supplier or freight company  to determine order status

·       Support Accounting department in resolving discrepancies in Accounts Payable with associated vendors

·       Facilitate employee transfer and relocation process by arranging for cost estimates on household moving and by issuing required purchase orders for services

·       Work to resolve all lost/damaged equipment discrepancies

·       Continuously network and build relationships with suppliers, vendors and others in industry

 

 

Compliance and Documentation

 

 

·       Accountable for maintaining central filing, catalog, and trade sourcing files for the branch office

·       Ensure Purchasing and Construction personnel have access to and awareness of volume and area-wide discounting structures

 

 

Other

 

·       Communicate, through the appropriate channels, any observations of noncompliance with the Guiding Principles and Core Values of BMWC and/or other violations of policy or illegal actions that place personnel and the company at risk

·       Perform, with care, any control-related activities required as a function of the position

·       Meet corporate standard for development activity

·       Specific job responsibilities and projects will be assigned and directed by leadership

 

 

Contacts

This position has regular contact with all levels of internal and field staff, Operations & Executive Leadership Teams, customers, and third-party partners and vendors.   This position is considered part of the Purchasing Department and reports to the Corporate Manager of Procurement.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Qualifications Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive, professional experience in corporate purchasing
  • Experience with multi-site entities and working with remote/offsite workforce personnel
  • Strong service orientation, outstanding presentation skills, flexibility and professionalism
  • Communicates effectively with all levels of employees – including differing skill sets, education and experience
  • Excellent organization skills, self-discipline, attention to detail and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a constantly changing environment
  • Advanced computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office products; technical aptitude to learn internal systems and required packages

 

Desired Characteristics:

  • Prior work experience in the construction industry
  • Purchasing experience with industrial piping, valves, fittings, etc.

 

 

Education

Bachelor’s degree is preferred with major field of study in business administration, construction management, accounting, or equivalent past experience. 

Additional coursework, training and/or certification are also preferred.

 

Working Conditions

Required 40 hours per week.  Office hours are 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.   Overtime may be necessary to complete assigned tasks.  The employee may be asked to travel to other company locations, and field construction or job sites on occasion.

While performing the duties of this position the employee is regularly required to sit and work on a computer for extended periods of time. Travel to field construction sites and work locations will result in exposure to dust and dirt on a routine basis. Other conditions include foul odors, irritating noises, extreme heat, cold and other severe weather conditions, potential harsh movement/vibrations, wetness or humidity, and potential safety hazards.

 

Employees are expected to have, utilize, maintain and wear all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by BMWC, the third party partner, client and any/or other applicable regulatory agency or management directive.

 

Physical Requirements

The employee may be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, lift, carry, pull, grasp, sit or bend over for extended periods. The employee must be able to lift, carry and move up to 40 pounds as needed. Employees in this position must be able to walk around indoor office and warehouse facilities and outdoor job sites with distances up to one-half mile on uneven, paved, gravel, dirt or sandy surfaces.
